HONG KONG - Day 4 - 22 Nov - Wednesday

Warning: this will be a long post

When I woke up at about 8.45, I peeped though the curtain and noticed that there was NO rain - yippee!!! However, the sky was a little gloomy.

We went down to have breakfast in the hotel restaurant (my papa only booked breakfast for today. He did it through the internet to get a 30% discount, which costs HKD100 per adult, after the discount. We will probably buy bread for tomorrow's breakfast).

Before we even started our breakfast, it RAINED!

The buffet breakfast was quite interesting as it was designed in the Walt Disney theme - the walls, the chairs and even some of the food items. The mango pudding and the waffle were cut out in the shape of Mickey.

As we were about to finish our breakfast, the rain stopped. My papa quickly went to buy the Disneyland entrance tickets (HKD295 for adult and HKD210 for child). As there was a promotion on, with this single priced ticket, we could enjoy the park for 2 consecutive days i.e. today and tomorrow.

We took the free shuttle to the park. The walk to the park was a grand one with fountains and trees with very good Disney piped music being played. We immediately felt magic in the air as we went through the turnstiles!!! There were Disney images and characters everywhere! The flower beds were arranged in the shape of Mickey; there were old American trains rolling past, vintage vehicles and omnibus passing us by, quaint western shops flanking both sides of the main street, shops selling Disney souvenirs. Towards the end of the main street is THE famous castle!

We went immediately for the rides as it was not raining then. It was cold, foggy and chilly though. Not to worry, my sister and I were adequately and prettily dressed for the occasion in our nice autumn/winter wear.

Guess what? My first game station was the Space Mountain - the most dangerous. My papa warned me about the scare factor and I assured him that I could take it (come on - I had taken ooo-lar-lar in wild wild wet back in Singapore). My papa and I took the ride in total darkness. It was really thrilling as I shouted my lungs out and clung onto my papa.

During the ride, I felt my tongue rolling out, my heart nearest burst out into my throat and my legs felt wormy. It was very scary! But exciting. But I told papa I do not want to take it again. Look at the photo - I am partially hidden, just beside my papa.

Note: My mama does not dare to try the Space Mountain and went with Tricia to take those boring rides e.g. carousel, dumbo, taking pictures with Disney characters.

I then went to drive a car at the 'Autopia' station. I can drive the nice car that looks like a sports car. As the minimum height to drive a car on one's own is 137cm, I have no choice but to have papa by my side while I drive. Hey, I should not be complaining as my sister could not even enter this one - she is less than 83cm tall, or long.

After my exciting driving experience (I received an official Disney driving licence), I went with Papa to the Buzz Lightyear station. We went round the circuit on a travellator and had to shoot the enemies using the laser gun. My papa won me as he had more than 10,000 points whereas I had about 6,000. He was in given the grade of 3 whereas I had grade 2. Fun!

We then met up with mama again and I recounted what I had done so far. I then went to drive the car at Autopia station again, this time with my mama beside me. My papa carried Tricia and waited at the gallery and he managed to take pictures of me driving my mama around. I can't wait to show all of you my video, which looks better than the photo shown here.

We then walked over to another section and took the Jungle river cruise ship. The signboard said 'May be frightening for kids and you will get wet'. The trip on a wooden boat was very thrilling - but I was quite scared - and told papa and mama that I do not want to take it a second time. By the way, papa and mama were partially wet.

After this ride, it was time for lunch and time for Tricia's beauty nap. We went back to the hotel to have our instant noodles.

At 3pm, it was still sunny (papa watched the weather forecast, which surprisingly says now that there would be no rain and then there will still be rain however, tomorrow). My papa brought me back to Disneyland and we watched the Disney parade. There were many floats and performances arranged by the various Disney stories e.g. one float for Toy stories, one float for Alice in Wonderland. It was very very colourful, but not very exciting for me as I like things that are more interactive.

After the parade, we went to the theatre performance showing 'Lion King'. The 30 minute performance was like a musical (as my papa told me). It was colourful and the props were pretty good (see right).

We then took a wooden raft across the river to climb a treehouse, about 5 storeys high. The view of the surrounding river was rather nice and we could see fire torches placed at regular intervals.

We played Buzz lightyear again, this time with the entire family.

At 6pm, we gathered at the main square for the special christmas tree light up. After 15 mins of wait, they announced that there was a technical glitch and the light up ceremony would be cancelled. The people around me gave a collective SIGH... Do look at a couple of pictures we took while waiting...

We proceeded to the castle to wait for the fireworks display at 7pm. We sat right in front of the castle with an unobstructed view. When the fireworks came, it was truly magical and spectacular. So very different from the ones seen in Singapore which is so boring. My papa manage to take the videos only partially as the fireworks display was too long (about 11 minutes). Too bad we are unable to load the video here. Instead, see a night shot of the castle.

After the fireworks, we took the MTR and had dinner at the shopping mall again. When we reached back to our hotel again, it was about 10pm and we were asleep by 11.30pm.

It was an exciting (though cold and chilly - which was good as Disneyland was thus not crowded at all and we could take many rides. Longest waiting time was only 5 minutes for today) day for us. Hope that the weather will be good tomorrow as we are planning to visit the Disneyland park again tomorrow.

What a magical day!
